Contextuele Gedragstherapie - say what?

The contextual behavioral therapy is at the base of all the psychological counseling that I offer in Practice Between Us.

Whether you individual therapy follow or choose a heart coherence pathway, I always look at your personal story from a functional point of view. This means that together we will explore the functions of your behavior:

  • How does your current context influence your behavior?
  • Does your history and what you learned in it influence what you do today?
  • Does it maintain certain patterns?

We look at behavior in the broadest sense of the word. It is not only about what is visible on the outside but also about what happens within, what you think, believe, and feel.

Better understand why you do what you do:

  • Creates distance between you and your behavior.
  • Creates space to look at yourself and your behavior with respect and a gentle look.
  • Shapes who you are by getting back in touch with yourself.
  • To discover what you really care about in life apart from beliefs and patterns you have learned.

Individual therapy (18+)

In the therapy room we are together, between us, from person to person. With respect for where you are now, I will explore with you where you feel stuck. I support you to reconnect with yourself, your needs and your dreams so that you can start living fully again and can choose in complete freedom what your life can be about.

Themes to work with include but are not limited to:

  • dealing with loss experiences
  • stuck in patterns that no longer serve you
  • existential questions about meaning and identity
  • barriers in relationships with others
  • feeling emotionally overwhelmed

Group therapy (18+)

It might scare you to join therapy in a group. The idea of sharing your inner world with others could make you feel insecure.

Yet research shows that group therapy works. For most people who have taken the step towards group therapy, it is a positive experience. They find recognition in each other and feel supported by the attentive presence of others. In the end, we are all human, navigating our own struggles.

We work thematically in small groups of maximum 6 people.

Heart coherence (18+)

During the heart coherence sessions you will get to know your nervous system better. How does our body protect us when faced with stressful situations? What causes our natural stress system to be under pressure? We also consider your behavior. How do you deal with stress in your life? What do you see yourself doing then?

In addition, we zoom in on heart coherence as a way to slow down your overactive stress system and bring your nervous system back into balance.

Heart coherence is a way of breathing that is very easy to learn. The bottom line is that you exhale longer than inhale. The rhythm in which you breathe is unique to you and we can define this on the basis of biofeedback.

Through focused breathing, breathing and the heart rhythm come into a cadence that brings our heart into a harmonious state and thus brings our brain into balance.

If you practice heart coherence long enough, you can act more from your safe mode instead of your survival mode, which has a positive impact on your way of thinking, your emotions and your behavior. It increases your resilience in dealing with stress.

The treatment is given with clothing on.
